Movetech UK wow with Emerson Lake and Palmer |
|
When Emerson Lake and Palmer took to the stage in their 40th anniversary year at London’s Victoria Park on 25th July – the first time they have played together in 10 years - Movetech UK also took centre stage in the reunion spectacular, billed as the climax to the weekend’s inaugural High Voltage Festival.
ELP have been renowned from their beginnings for their stunning onstage effects, and it was drummer, Carl Palmer’s suggestion that the 3 metre revolving stage could recreate the excitement and pizzazz of their early years. With drum kit on top, the revolve spins the drummer – one of rock and roll’s greatest – and, thanks to the specially mounted wheels underneath it - shoots him to the front of the stage for his celebrated solo extravaganzas.
“I’m incredibly excited about the drum riser,” says Carl. “It was fantastic in rehearsals, and Movetech UK pulled out all the stops to make sure it was a success at the festival. My confidence paid off – it definitely created the wow factor we’d been looking for.”
Movetech UK was equally enthusiastic about the event and the impression the revolve made on both performers and audience. “It was a fantastic event to be involved with,” says Movetech UK’s Rental Manager, Matt Forrest, “and with the film of the event being available on DVD and as a broadcast, our capabilities will be seen worldwide.”
ELP’s performance at the High Voltage Festival will also be part of a live album and DVD for release later in the year.
To ensure that the revolve met the band’s requirements and was available for rehearsals, Movetech UK worked closely with ELP’s management company, QEDG, delivering and installing the stage whenever and wherever it was needed to fit the tight rehearsal schedule.

Swann-Morton launches Cygnetic at COMOC |
|
Following years of development and recent formal trials at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals, Swann-Morton will launch its Cygnetic blade and handle range at COMOC, (Combined Orthopaedic Associations) at the Scottish Exhibition & Conference Centre, Glasgow, 12–17 September 2010. The unique design offers a major breakthrough for rigorous orthopaedic procedures and for general surgery, where excess lateral pressure can sometimes be placed on the blade.
Cygnetic provides the surgeon with additional strength and stability through a patented combination. The blade is manufactured from a thicker specification of stainless steel which is gripped firmly on both sides once secured within the special handle.
The Cygnetic handle’s lever operated system allows for safe and easy blade attachment and removal. When the blade needs changing or the procedure is completed, the theatre nurse can simply drop the blade into a sharps container or counter box, with no handling of contaminated sharps. Once the procedure has ended the handle can be disassembled by the decontamination and reprocessing centre ready for cleaning.
Cygnetic has been trialled at the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals. Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, Mr A J Hamer, comments on the new range of Swann-Morton products: “The feel, weight and balance are good. I found removing and detaching the blades straightforward.”
Following a demonstration to Gill Cryan, Assistant Manager, Sterile Services, 31 experienced decontamination staff carried out a disassembly and reassembly routine on a Cygnetic handle on average 10 times each over a 24-hour period. Staff commented that the routine was relatively easy, taken within the context of the usual day-to-day tasks faced by the Decontamination Unit.
Initially the range will include four stainless steel blade shapes, the CYG 10, CYG 11, CYG 15 and CYG 20, available in boxes of 50.
To find out more about the full range of Swann-Morton’s orthopaedic products, which includes the traditional Swann-Major range, and to discuss the benefits of Cygnetic with senior management and product specialists, visit stand 72 at COMOC.

Jung jacks and skates make light work of heavy lathe |
|
A package of JUNG hydraulic jacks, castors and steerable trolley supplied by Movetech UK is helping Hawke International UK to move and install heavy machinery quickly and safely at their plant in Ashton under Lyne, Greater Manchester.
The company, a world supplier of cable glands, EXE GRP Enclosures, exe stainless steel enclosures, ex connectors and transformer breathers, needs to move machine tools and other heavy plant round the workshop. As Production Engineer, Carl Heitmar, explains:
“The latest machine we have had to move is a large 1" x 6 spindle Wickman automatic lathe, which weighs in at 5335 kg.
“In the past the most common method would be to pay contractors to use their heavy moving equipment to take care of the job. However, access for the required fork lift trucks of 10 tonnes plus capacity, is often restricted, and heavy moving plant cannot be used. In these cases an alternative method would be to use winches (tirfors) and low tech skates, which require the shop floor to be drilled in numerous locations for anchorage. This is both time-consuming and labour intensive.
“Over the years I have been responsible for moving a number of heavy machine tools, and I have found that the best solution is to use heavy duty skates such as those supplied by Movetech UK. Heavy machinery can be moved very quickly and at little extra cost once the equipment has been bought.
“The JUNG jacks, skates and trolley were more than up to the latest job and will, in fact, take weights up to 13,000 kg.”

Movetech UK lights up Litecraft |
|
Movetech UK are helping Oldham-based national lighting specialists, Litecraft, light up their stores by supplying ceiling mounted revolves to attract a ttention to some of their most spectacular chandeliers. More than 50 revolves have now been fitted throughout their 16 stores nationwide, and more are planned for the future as the programme rolls out further.
“We wanted to achieve a ‘wow’ factor for customers coming into the store,” says Litecraft’s Merchandising Director, Emily Russell, “and the revolves have certainly pulled it off for us.”
“They’ve helped us create some exciting window displays, which help to draw customers into the stores, and both staff and customers love the in-store revolving displays because they add interest and focus. We’re even making sales of the display motors so that customers can recreate the spectacle in their own homes!”
Tim Entwistle, Managing Director at Movetech UK, is delighted that Litecraft has chosen Movetech UK for their latest promotions. “It’s great to be associated with a firm that is even older than our own,” says Tim. “We’ve worked closely with the in-store design team to ensure they have the right range of revolves for the chandeliers they want to revolve, and we are looking forward to working with them to roll out their ideas in their stores across the UK.”
Movetech UK’s customers have been using ceiling mounted revolves for many years, not just to create spectacular displays of merchandise in retail outlets and at exhibitions, but also to highlight particular areas such as information desks, special offers and new lines. In the display arena they save on valuable floor space, allowing customers to see more product from all angles without feeling crowded out of the sales area. Movetech UK’s success in this area revolves round the company’s excellent customer service, which not just ensures that the right unit is supplied but also identifies where units should be modified or bespoke built for individual projects.

Businesses learn what it takes with Ambition |
|
A series of seminars examining the issues that get in the way of business operations, identifying problem areas and turning them into to strategies for success starts on Thursday, 24th June, with the first session attracting a 50% discount, and a 100% refund guarantee for anyone who feels they have not gained anything from their attendance. Delegates at the session on 24th June, which runs from 8.30am – 12.30pm including a light breakfast, will also be given guidance on the funding available from Business Link.
Aimed at business owners and managers, the Ambition Club is a six-month programme of monthly business strategy meetings and has been likened by some SME owners to “the board meeting we don’t have as we don’t have a board!” Operating on the premise that business owners, although experts in their particular field, have never had official training on how to run a business, Ambition Club aims to focus on the problems that business owners commonly face, eg time management and pricing, and helps attendees find the right solutions to combat individual problems.
Sessions cover a diverse range of topics, all designed to help with the different aspects of a business that can hinder success. Ambition Club will demonstrate how ideas and systems can be applied to individual business models to turn business around and, crucially, provides participants with goals to work to and ensures they are put into operation.
Previous participants are enthusiastic about the benefits Ambition Club has brought to their businesses. “Ambition has made me realise I must take action today,” says Mal Percy, owner of Building, Design and Consultancy Ltd. “It has made me more determined to deal with my issues.” Other business owners and managers have seen: better relationships with customers; improved cash flow; better time management; identification of staffing needs and problems; and the winning of major new business.
Ambition Club is being run by Stafford & Co at their premises in Gaskell Street. The firm has been running Ambition Club for a year with some extraordinary results, some of which can be viewed at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VWajG4iljC8. More details are available from Sarah Chilton on email:
