As Robert Stafford, a director of Bolton, Lancashire based Stafford & Co, takes on the mantle of 40th President of the Bolton Society of Chartered Accountants (BSCA) he is looking to achieve a double: he is the first to follow a parent into the post (his father Ken Stafford served as President 1999-2000) and, at 31 years of age, he is probably the youngest President the Society has had in its long history.Robert Stafford

Rob Stafford, who also acts as Student Careers Adviser for the BSCA, succeeds Kay Rayner of Cassons to the President post. Kay Rayner also celebrated a first on her inauguration in 2009 - as the first woman to head the Society.

“It’s a tremendous honour to be appointed President of the Bolton Society of Chartered Accountants,” says Rob, “and, at the same time, a tremendous responsibility. Local Societies of Chartered Accountants, including the BSCA, are affiliated to and represent the Institute of Chartered Accountants England & Wales (ICAEW). They play an important role in keeping members abreast of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) needs and opportunities, and in linking local accountancy and other professional firms.

“As President of BSCA I will aim to introduce new members to the Society, particularly younger and newly qualified practitioners, by focusing on the benefits the Society can offer them in their professional and personal development.”

At Stafford & Co Rob’s main responsibilities include providing strategic and growth advice to fast-growing and start-up businesses. As a general practitioner he is also knowledgeable in all areas of tax and accounts and can provide guidance to SMEs on all aspects of financial information relevant to their business.

Educated at Siddal Moor High School, Heywood, Lancashire, Holy Cross 6th Form College Bury, Lancashire and John Moores University, Liverpool, Rob Stafford moved to the family accountancy firm of Stafford & Co on completion of his three years Chartered Accountancy (CA) training. He is a member of the Student Careers Advisory Network (SCAN), which is part of ICAEW.

He now lives in Bury with his wife, Claire, and their three children, William (5), Olivia (2) and Samuel (1). He is a keen runner, having participated in several half marathons, and, with other members of the Stafford & Co team plus wife, Claire, and son, William, completed the Sports Relief Mile in Manchester on 21st March.
